Could make it into a contest with community voting; heck the community would just do all the work. The winner could win like early access to CoN or something, but it'd create a bit more buzz around gamers and even youtube. Just a thought. You guys don't have to do everything; gamers are supportive of games they like and I'm sure many of them are creative enough to make some fantastic trailers/fan vids.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2575632563404675103.post-47779345904327635622010-09-18T08:43:15.595-04:002010-09-18T08:43:15.595-04:00Could Tidalis be distributed on some of the 'c...Could Tidalis be distributed on some of the 'casual' gaming sites, such as BigFish and Gamehouse? The quality of the game would stand heads above most of the games on those sites and I imagine would appeal to the majority of the users who visit.sharkymouthnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2575632563404675103.post-70512435723113608442010-09-16T03:17:18.669-04:002010-09-16T03:17:18.669-04:00Figures that so close to this blog post, a friend ...Figures that so close to this blog post, a friend gave me a list of activation codes from some site. Once he told me what it was, I saw all the codes were made from keygens. It's one thing to screw over a big company with several well-known titles to fall back on, but to do so to a small developer with a handful of games at most? Shameful.

I'll prolly never play this game, but my heart goes out to hard-working devs in the face of cheapskates (like me) and hackers. I'm really sorry to hear you...Hey Christopher,

I'm really sorry to hear you're in this position. I've loved your company ever since I first read up on it. I've corresponded with you before on the Steam forums and Arcen's forums (I didn't like that part of the post about Unity where multiple monitor support). But I do love that it won't rely on .NET anymore because a corrupted install of that prevented me from playing.

I've had quite a few of my friends and family buy AI War. If you guys can swing some deals on Steam I'd buy a couple copies of Tidalis even though I hate that sort of game.

I've been looking forward to the full Alden Ridge game since that first time I visited Arcen's website. I love the retro style graphics you guys use but I can see why many would bypass AI War simply for that reason.

I'd be interested in pre-purchasing Alden Ridge if you guys have a system in place to do that. Maybe you can do some kind of limited edition content for pre-orders or people who donate or have more than one of your games or something. I'm a collector so that sort of thing appeals to me. Maybe you could have everyone register their serial #s on your website to keep track of purchases?

AI War is one-of-a-kind and a royal flush (poker hand) in my book.

As for mobile/android I think that's an awesome idea. Pocket-sized technology with touch screens are not going away. It is the future. Droid 2 has a 1ghz processor in it! Phones aren't phones anymore. They're pocket-sized computers with calling capabilities. GET IN ON IT!

Maybe you could link up a cell phone game to the desktop? Tidalis high scores sync with global, regional, local areas and with your desktop?

Much aloha!

-Laus NordahUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16641364253205031945noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2575632563404675103.post-25648056626748076972010-09-14T20:21:07.982-04:002010-09-14T20:21:07.982-04:00To be honest, if you can negotiate another deal on...To be honest, if you can negotiate another deal on Steam rather than GamersGate that would boost your sales a lot. ...I would very much hate to see you guys go under.

I plan on spreading the word as much as I can about your games. Particularly AI War (Haven't tried Tidalis, but you can bet I will now ;) ).

I would also have to say, you should consider going mobile. No, it wont make you rich, but theres a good chance it would provide a steady stream of income, however small. Besides, Android is severely lacking quality strategy games. You would have the market cornered :D

Best of luck. I'm rooting for you.Jeremyhttp://www.advancingbackwards.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2575632563404675103.post-53230489976101470862010-09-14T18:58:21.652-04:002010-09-14T18:58:21.652-04:00And Minecraft is pulling in some $50,000 per day. ...And Minecraft is pulling in some $50,000 per day. For sure, Alden Ridge Arcade might fit that profile, but the intent is for that to be a lot deeper than your average arcade-style game, despite its planned low cost, etc.

But for AI War and Tidalis, those are pretty premium offerings in their genre in terms of gameplay (if not the latest 3D and such, but that's not everything), and we think the price point is fair and serving us well. Speaking to other indies who have tried a number of different tactics pricing-wise, we're comfortable that it's not our prices that are causing any issues.

And if you're not comfortable dropping $20 on a game sight-unseen: we totally agree! That's why we have huge, generous demos.

The outpouring of support for this post has been pretty amazing, all over the internet. I keep feeling like Meg Ryan in You've Got Mail... that makes me nervous, remembering how it ended up for her. ;)

But in all seriousness, our fans really do rock, and the level of support is nothing short of amazing. Everyone at Arcen is really grateful.Christopher M.
